Queensland Domination

Back to news

From our Queensland correspondant – Mitch Bradey

10 out of the last 11 State of Origin series wins and It’s fair to say it’s a great time to be a Queenslander. While the last decade has seen dominant displays on the footy field, we’ve been a little quiet on the beer scene.

The southern states have been churning out champion beers and brewer’s year after year all the while a group of quality focused brewers north of the border have been quietly bubbling away. Locals may know them well but this year’s AIBA’s have rocketed QLD breweries front and centre on the national stage.

  • Champion Small Australian Brewery – Green Beacon, Brisbane
  • Champion Medium Australian Brewery Balter, Gold Coast
  • Champion Large Australian Brewery – Stone & Wood, Byron Bay (Just an hour south of the border!)

From all the team at Bintani, a big congratulations to Johan (Green Beacon), Scotty (Balter) and yes.. Just like Greg Inglis we’ll claim NSW based Stone and Wood as one of ours, so congrats to Brad (S&W) and the team at Murwillumbah too. A special mention to Lachy from Ballistic for three Gold medals in their first attempt. These guys had literally only run a hand full of brews though their kit before sending beers to be judged. It just goes to show that the focus coming out of this region really is on quality beer first and foremost!
